Paranormal Visions went to The West Side Tavern to investigate claims of Paranormal. It has been a legend in Pt Pleasant
as well as surrounding towns that Captain John and his daughter haunted the place. Captain John allegedly locked his
daughter in the attic and abused her. There are further claims that, at one time the basement was once a one time morgue 10
39 bodies who perished in a storm on Feb 16th 1846, when two ships wrecked just off the shores of Pt Pleasant. It was further
noted that during Jeremy Margolias (general manager) appearance to The Montel Williams Show, Sylvia Browne said that
West Side was actually being haunted by a Louis Carter and that he was bad for business.
Background
Paranormal Visions not only investigated the building with scientific equipment, we do a background check on the property.
We couldn't find any information that supported the claim that the bodies from the John Mintrum Ship Wreck were held in the
basement of the building. Facts show that many bodies were taken to a Little Church in Pt Pleasant. Most bodies were claimed
by family, others were buried right in the churchyard. There are also further discrepancy about the time line. There is no
information that West Side building was in existence in 1846. If in fact it was there, at the time frame, it would not have even
been considered Pt pleasant but instead Brick Township or a branch of.
We also looked into the claim of Louis Carter, the ghost that haunts West Side and is bad for business according to Sylvia
Brown. No information about Louis Carter could be found.
Investigation
Paranormal Visions arrived at 1:30 am with 5 camcorders, 6 cameras, 3 digital voice recorders, 1 digital infrared
thermometers, 1 EMF detector (Electric Magnetic Field). We setup our equipment in strategic places throughout the bar
including the basement and attic. We proceeded to split into two Teams. Team one, who included Lead Investigator Desirae,
Senior member Don and new member Charlene. Team Two was Lead Investigator Hannah, new member June, and new
member Chris. The investigation was also being documented by News Reporter Chris Lundy of the Ocean County Observer.
The EMF detector stayed a steady orange ( 10+ milli gauss) for all of the investigation with the exception of the two noted
incidents and the demonstration with the electrical box in the basement.
No EVP's were picked by either team.
Paranormal Visions has concluded that even though there were a few unexplained personal experience and captured
several orbs in photos we COULD NOT scientifically prove The West Side Tavern haunted. It is also important to mention that
throughout the building we recorded high levels of EMF, the levels were a steady 10+ milli gauss. It has been documented that
with a building with higher EMF readings people within the dwelling have complained of headaches, dizziness, hearing voices,
and other unexplained occurrences. Sometimes mistaking this as Paranormal Activity. So this needs to be taken into
consideration.
Paranormal Visions Team Members would like to Thank Jeremy Margolias for giving us the
opportunity to investigate what has been a great experience as well as satisfying one for Desirae,
Don and Hannah whom grew up in the area and had heard most of their childhood that the place
was haunted. THANK YOU JEREMY!!
